The name of a potential new federal conservative nominee for Thunder Bay – Rainy River might sound familiar to most residents living in Northwest Ontario.

Maureen Comuzzi-Stehmann, niece of long-time MP Joe Comuzzi, announced Friday that she intends to seek the Conservative nomination for the Thunder Bay riding that borders the riding her uncle held for two decades.

"Our family has been part of the fabric of the Thunder Bay region for generations," she said in a news release issued Friday. "My grandfather founded Lakehead Motors. My father, George, and now my brother Michael have continued the tradition of our family run business."

She applauded her uncle’s efforts as a long time area MP, adding that she believes the riding is in need of party-politics free representation.

Comuzzi-Stehmann still needs to file her nomination papers and obtain 50 signatures from members of the Conservative’s Thunder Bay Rainy River riding association.

"I am expecting a nomination near the end of August," she said.
