People in Thunder Bay got their first look at what an automobile manufacturer is calling the future of automobiles.

The Mitsubishi i-Miev, made a stop in Thunder Bay Tuesday on its "Clean Across Canada Tour" to promote the fully electric car. Running on lithium ion batteries, the car can travel 120 kilometres on a full charge.

The car now moves West to Dryden. It will be available in Canada in late 2011.

I don't know if electric cars are the way of the future or not, but we need to do something to stop our greed for oil.

we are killing the planet.

120km to a charge in the summer, im guessing for the other 8 months of the years it will be something like 40km to a charge if your lucky.

Lovely, they put doors on an electric golf cart. Congratualtions Mitsubishi, youve hit another home run.

too bad youre still in little league.

and yes, 120kms to a charge... what good is that? You cant even get from town to town without stopping for 1-2+ hours of charging.

By the way, how green is this car if its full of batteries, plastics (made from oil) and must be charged by electricity that comes from who knows what methods?

Yes, its just to appeal to the stupid who are the same ones who think government funding is a good thing.

I wonder if its gonna require a seperate 30a 240v electrical socket for the battery blanket during the winters ?

I wonder if they drive this car front town to town on the back of a diesel flatbed?

@pieisland

actually studies have been done and even with the production of batteries and if it was charged by means of coal it has the equivalent in an electric car to 3.9L of fuel per hundred km. at the moment there are some ultra low emission diesels that can just beat that out but if the car is charged by means of other than coal then its much much less than that. This is powered by the new generations of batteries for cars, as time progresses they will improve the range considerably, the EESTOR battery if hits production does just that.

120 km can be a few days of driving for alot of people as well, and putting it on a charger at night isnt an inconvenience.

but i assume that you still drive a carburated vehicle as them confounded computers in your car are too much of a progression. lets just stop all production of anything as its all silly.

sorry decipher...

alyhough youre correct on the new improved batteries...youre wrong on your assumptions.

so much so that i'll tell you that im making this comment from my scan tool. You see, im an auto tech who has his hands deep into the automotive electronics field.

so save your preaching and assumtions for some other fool. perhaps you can find another person who reads popular mechanics and you can tell us all about what youve read, but never touched.
