The EMS station in Conmee has been closed temporarily due to mould.

Paramedics and fire fighters have been relocated to the Kakabeka Falls fire station until the Conmee station is confirmed to be mould-free and there are no health and safety risks.

Deputy EMS Chief Don Stokes said there would be no change to response or resources for the area.

With all the time firefighters sit around, you think they could be cleaning on a regular basis. Bleach works great!

It's hard to imagine a group like this not having the courage to battle some mold in their workplace. I guess that's someone else's job.

dear tbtnewswatch:

please get facts straight. they are talking about the EMS living quarters only. the conmee fire department is not affected by this at all.

To Steve,
FYI, the firefighters in Conmee station are volunteers and as such do not "sit around" as they have other jobs as well as the commitment to serve their community. Also, bleach works great for small mould problems I agree but when an entire station is closed as a result, I hardly think that a little bleach will fix the problem.

concerned medic says:
Although it is concerning the Paramedics were exposed to mold in the trailer they were based out of it is important to note the base was maintained and kept clean and the mold was found inside the walls.

Our Paramedics in the district and in the city are hard working professionals and indeed the rural medics in question work 24 hours a day for 4 days in a row on a 4 on 4 off rotation. To compare an critique emergency services is both unfair and uneducated.
