A three-vehicle crash on the southern outskirts of Thunder Bay sent two people to hospital Wednesday.

Three vehicles were heavily damaged in the collision, and paramedics took the injured drivers to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with what were believed to be minor injuries.

The crash took place on Highway 61 near AJ's Trading Post just before 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Two pick-up trucks and a two-door Honda Civic were involved. Officers with the Thunder Bay detachment of the OPP say the collision occurred when a southbound vehicle attempted to pass another vehicle that was turning left into a private commercial driveway.

A northbound vehicle and the passing southbound vehicle then collided. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles. Emergency personnel from Neebing and Oliver Paipoonge attended the crash scene.

Traffic on Highway 61 was re-routed onto Wilderness Drive for about an hour-and-a-half. Police now say one driver has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act for attempting an unsafe manoeuvre.

Why would one to try and pass a left-turning vehicle? I don't understand why people are in such a hurry all the time. I wish people would slow down and be careful. Life is too short.
