Coun. Rebecca Johnson will run again.

Coun. Johnson filed to run for re-election Thursday in hopes of securing a third term on city council. She was first elected in 2003.

"I have been asked about my intentions throughout the summer. After some personal reflection and dialogue with friends and family, I determined that there is still important work to do and a lot I can contribute to our city’s future," Johnson is quoted as saying in a news release issued Thursday.

She added that she believes she has made "great strides" as a councillor for the city in her past two terms, but believes there is still more work to be done.

Coun. Johnson has created a website specifically designed for her re-election bid.

Also running at-large are incumbents Iain Angus, Larry Hebert and Aldo Ruberto, former councillors Lawrence Timko and Dick Waddington, and first-timers Cindy Crowe, Beatrice Metzler, Gerald Graham, Sharon Ostberg, Syndey Petit, Darren Roberts and Norm Staal.

How can dick waddington run for alderman again. Ten years ago, he had trouble staying awake for the entire council meeting. This isn;t a rest home, it's city council. I agree he repesented his current river ward well, but he needs to give others a chance.

No one in this election is going to get my vote unless they come out with a clearly stated position on the proposed wind farm! For or against this proposal, I think we all deserve to know where each candidate stands on the issue. All we are likely to get though is a bunch of non-commital doublespeak or bafflegab.......

re yqtyqt and waddington staying awake,

I have noticed other councillors appearing to fall asleep at meetings or be preoccupied with texting/ emailing
Larry Hebert in particular, although its hard to tell on the video on TV- it was good when they recorded and posted meetings last july and you could check the recording to make sure

re Rebecca Johnson, no thanks.
After 7 years she has supposedly 'made great strides' but she has also been part of the bungling that is the waterfront fiasco, the transit relocation, and allowing administration to ink a dog of a deal for the windfarm.

I remember Rebecca saying early on that no one is filing because the city feels the current council is doing a good job. Oh please.

My last comment was a bit tongue in cheeck with the continual waste of time clarifying topics at council. Maybe if they read the adjenda before they walk in they'd be better informed. Watch the next meeting. See how many look prepared.

I think shes wasted enough of our time, maybe if she educated herself on certain topics she wouldn't need a full lesson during meetings... just saying

Only strides I'd like to see this one make are long strides as she walks away from city hall and politics in this town.. please move back to BC or where ever it was you were. Thanks!
