More testimony was heard Tuesday at the inquest into the June 2009 OPP shooting death of a man near Pickle Lake.
The inquiry is looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of Peterborough's Levi Schaeffer. Two officers were searching for a missing boat on Osnaburgh Lake when they came across Schaeffer, who was shot twice in the chest during the altercation.
The five-person jury on Tuesday heard from a Pickle Lake OPP constable who was the first person on the scene after the gunshots were fired, and from Ontario's Chief Forensic Pathologist, who performed the autopsy on 30-year-old Schaeffer.
OPP Const. Caleb Sawchuk provided a detailed description of the 2009 incident scene.
Sawchuk also testified that he and paramedics unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate Schaeffer using CPR.
The forensic pathologist told the jury that, based on autopsy results, Schaeffer died from two gunshot wounds to the torso that pierced several vital organs.
The two officers involved in the shooting are set to testify Wednesday.
The inquest will continue throughout the week, and is expected to conclude on Friday.
