City police officers say no charges will be laid in connection with a car and pedestrian collision that took place Wednesday evening.

The incident was reported around 6 p.m. on Cumberland Street, near the Marina Park overpass.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say a group of five people was waiting to cross the road, when one of them suddenly ran onto the roadway and was struck by a vehicle travelling south-bound.

A 33-year-old woman was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the woman appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Glad no one was killed in this latest antic.

This is an extremely bad area for drunkeness and loitering from group that use the overpass and creek areas to party. The other areas are the intercity causeway area intersection of Fort William Road and the Canadian Tire gas bar AND the area near the Kam River Park.

The drunk walk right out into traffic with no warning or diregard.

The Police and the City should fence off and patrol these areas.

Fences? Police babysitting people crossing the street? You're kidding, right? You don't think the patrol officers in this city don't go from call to call to call most of the time? There is no time to sit and watch roads to make sure adults know how to cross the street safely.

The people that were involved in this are always all over the road. Not a one of them even look for cars coming, they just simply believe that cars should stop for them. I am not surprised that this happened, actually I am surprised that it hasn't happened sooner.

How about charges to the drunks who walk out (or run) into traffic, for being intoxicated in public.... Does anyone remember the two women who were drunk and crossing Simpson street a few years back when one passed out, the other went back to get her, and an oncoming car swerved to miss the one still standing and but not see the one lying on the street and ran over and killed her. The car driver was charged, which I think was totally wrong.

The idiot who ran onto the road should be charged for causing damage to the car. Obviously you couldn't get a vandalism conviction, but maybe mischief.

J-walking? I dont thnk the drunk peeps around town even know where they are!
What you do see alot of lately is gangs of kids walking down the middle of the roads...Looks like the gang scene is alive & well here in town....It's gonna be a messy summer for many walking at nite if these gangs continue to grow!
