After standing vacant for more than two and a half years, new life is being breathed into the former East Side Mario's building on Memorial Avenue.

Jointly owned Nortec Computers and Smart Choice Rent to Own are scheduled to open up shop at their new location within two months.

The businesses will move down the street from their current building, near Chapters Book Store.

Smart Choice General Manager Peter Carlson is excited about the move that will bring them closer to Intercity Shopping Centre and the Thunder Centre.

The sale was finalized on Oct. 1 and renovations to the interior of the building began shortly thereafter.

Carlson said the new, larger facility will give both Nortec and Smart Choice room to expand.

I guess my dream of seeing a Red Lobster restaurant just went down the Nova Scotia coast.
I remember the good old days of good places to eat like Golden Griddle, Elephant and Castle.
Crippled Crow pizza was good too.
I am going downstairs to look for a WWE ice cream bar. Catch you all later eh!

When I read the headline I had hoped a new restarant was going in but this is still good news. These folks obviously feel confident about the city. I hope they have tremendous success.

Wait a minute!

You mean businesses can expand and operate without the provincial liberals forking over money?

I thought Capitalism was dead? I read that communist comment somewhere recently... hmm, I wonder where it was?

anyway, good luck to these businesses on their expansion. Work shall set you free!

Delbert--- if you truly believe in free market system, I mean completely and totally, then the auto industry in this country along with hundreds of thousands of Ontario jobs would have been extinct.

Now is that your position and if so, then please do not sit behind a computer keyboard, sign your actual name to this and let everyone know that you believe that no gov't, Liberal, Conservative or NDP should ever support business.

The total free market system, where profit is above all else can lead to a giant crash like in the US. If you really believe that business solves all ills then I guess I have to ask you to explain the great depression, various recessions and this latest global meltdown.

Unfettered free enterprise is doomed for failure. Finding a balance is required. And please tell us what we should tell Canadian companies comnpeting against the world that receive gov't support.

"Sorry, you just have to make it on your own"

We would have no companies.

Good news! macdaddy, those places you listed were great weren't they? I remember the Elephant & Castle and that dude that used to walk around dressed up as a british bobby.

I'm not sure, but i think the owners of The Keg here in TBay own the rights to Red Lobster franchise for TBay and have chosen not to establish one. Perhaps it's just a rumour.

Olive Garden would be awesome here too as countrychick had mentioned!

Aww! This was apparently the only possible location in which any new kind of chain restaurant could open! Now we will never get an Oliver Garden or Red Lobster!!! :( :( :( Thanks for nothing, local business!!

Anyone with a brain, thats who. I have 5 Dells in my home, 2 desktops and 3 laptops, my one desk top is 12 years old and no issues, my son has a dell desktop and it is 7 years old, again, no issues. My daughter and myself own 3 laptops.. only one issue on the one laptop, the key broke on the keyboard, they are now 5 years old... so I would say lots of people buy Dell... I just wouldnt recommend buying it from a local store, but from the Dell website! Dell offers awesome phone support and its a great product made from quality parts! Unlike some local stores!!

Dell doesn't sell through local stores. Dell sells online, and I believe it was a big deal when they signed an agreement with Wal-Mart to allow Wal-Mart to sell Dell computers on-site. This local business is the only one in Canada that sells Dell computers in-house. Ask Dell how they feel about it.

It's great that no new restaurant is moving in. Do we really need another food place so they can be open for like 2 years and then shut down? I think that we have too many restaurants as is, and half of them have horrible food.
