An unattended pot in the kitchen appears to be the cause of a Valley Street apartment fire yesterday.

A pot of cooking oil boiled over, caught fire and ignited other items on the stove top. A neighbour across the hall heard the commotion and came over and knocked the flames down with a fire extinguisher.

There was still heavy black smoke coming from the apartment when fire crews arrived. The Ontario Fire Marshal is reminding the public that cooking fires are the No. 1 cause of structural fires.

What a surprise a grease fire. Thank goodness it wasn't a candle, careless smoking or a faulty extension cord. That could never happen!

Someone is a dingdong because they had an accident? Do most people not make mistakes or have accidents in their lifetime? Sad that that is your first reaction to this story instead of being thankful that everyone is okay!
