In an effort to enhance its tourism and recreation, the township of Nipigon is embarking on a new branding and community signage program.

Nipigon Mayor Richard Harvey said the town rebranding will also help the town keep up with the changing economic and social realities of today.

Harvey added that he's excited about who is leading the project.

“Dave Koski Designs brings a lot of expertise, he is incredibly well respected for the work he does,” Harvey said. “(He’s recognized) for not only the work he’s done throughout the region, but for the work he’s done throughout the world.

“The exciting thing that’s very interesting about Dave (Koski) is that he is born and raised in Nipigon.”

Harvey said Koski will be co-ordinating the work over the next year.

I hope that Nipigon will tie its rebranding into the new cable stay bridge that will be under construction soon on Hwy 11/17. It is a spectacular bridge design. Develop a viewing area somewhere along the River and people will stop.

Hopefully that will not be a project that falls under the Drummond Axe. I could see the Toronto-centric crowd at Queen's Park sacrificing a project like that bridge to save others of the like in Southern Ontario. I hope I am wrong though, that bridge will be quite the sight for residents and visitors alike in Nipigon. It will be the largest in Ontario, and surely attract the attention of those who cross it.

Awesome that "K-Dog" is doing the design work! His stuff goes back all the way to the Thunder Bay Flyers hockey sweaters in the 80s... his designs are on businesses all over the place! Great that they're using local talent too!

Dear Nipigon
Branding and signage may be premature. Develop products and attractions first. Things that will tangibly bring visitors to the town to stay and spend money. A bridge is not a tangible tourist attraction, people viewing it spend no money in the community and stay for a grand total of 2 minutes to look at it and go pee. You need something that will provide an actual economic impact to the community or tourism efforts are pointless. Signage is good, yes, but what will the signs be of/to? Like most of the communities along the north shore Nipigon needs to wake up and figure out what they actually have to offer visitors. There is only so much anyone can do to brand rocks and trees and dirt without having the appropriate goods and services in place to make use of those resources and earn a profit.
