After being shut down for more than three months, the Global Sticks plant in Oliver-Paipoonge is preparing to call back its employees in early March.

But the company's president admits the start-up could be short-lived, as the callbacks are part of an effort show off the plant to potential investors.

Global Sticks laid off its 80 employees in mid-November, just five months after the company's grand opening celebration.

The closure was blamed on financial difficulties and problems accessing enough birch wood for the Popsicle sticks and other products made at the plant.

Company president Reggie Nukovic said they plan to restart the machines the week of March 5, in preparation for a visit by several potential investors the following week.

Nukovic previously said he hoped to secure $2 million in new financing, and had pledged to have the plant re-opened in mid-January.

But so far the company hasn't been able to find any new investors.

Nukovic said they have been able to secure a small loan from one of their existing lenders, so the company can buy some birch wood for next month's start-up.
