Under-aged drinking complaints lead to drug bust

Complaints about under-aged drinking and partying in the River Terrace Park area led police to arrest two boys for allegedly trafficking marijuana.

Complaints about under-aged drinking and partying in the River Terrace Park area led police to arrest two boys for allegedly trafficking marijuana.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say they’ve received numerous reports from concerned citizens about youth partying and drinking in the River Terrace Park area.

Police patrols were assigned to this area throughout the weekend as a result of these complaints.

On Saturday night, police dealt with about 50 youth. Officers seized about 84 bottles of beer, a bottle of liquor and a bottle of wine from youth in the area.

Police did not lay charges, but did seize the alcohol.

Police say none of the youths officers dealt with were intoxicated.

But, while officers dealt with three males on alcohol related offences, they seized a quantity of marijuana. As a result of that discovery, police arrested two boys with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

One of the youth was also charged with breach of probation.
