Tourism in Northwestern Ontario has taken a sizable hit, as three of region's four Tourist Information Centres have been slated for closure.

The McGuinty government says it is an out-of-date service, as the Internet can give tourists all they need in regards to travel plans.  But Northern businesses say they still rely on these centres as cellphone and Internet service is sporadic throughout the region.

The Tourist Information Centre in Fort Frances will be closing April 30, along with one in Rainy River and another near the Manitoba border.  Mayor of Fort Frances Roy Avis is now calling to meet with the Minister of Tourism Michael Chan to discuss the issue.

rainy river and fort frances is an NDP riding. the two towns that are on US borders. that area has always been the first place to get help from the government. mcguinty needs to get voted out, he does not care about that part of the region, he is basically taking out the last thing that RR gets for summer student jobs. he is taking away the biggest thing we depend on, tourism, slowly killing the small towns little by little.

Use SKYPE instead of spending all this extra mones for a "gathering" if cash is tight?

If it were your business & money that was being used, I'm sure there would be alot of changes right off the hop...Stop spending on useless things & put the actual cash towards good use!
