Tourism in Northwestern Ontario has taken a sizable hit, as three of region's four Tourist Information Centres have been slated for closure.

The McGuinty government says it is an out-of-date service, as the Internet can give tourists all they need in regards to travel plans.  But Northern businesses say they still rely on these centres as cellphone and Internet service is sporadic throughout the region.

The Tourist Information Centre in Fort Frances will be closing April 30, along with one in Rainy River and another near the Manitoba border.  Mayor of Fort Frances Roy Avis is now calling to meet with the Minister of Tourism Michael Chan to discuss the issue.
