Man charged for pointing replica gun at people

Police charged a 27-year-old-man with possession of a weapon after he allegedly pointed a replica BB handgun at people.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded to a call on River Street at Madeline Street for a man pointing a handgun at people just before 11 p.m. on Friday. The gun turned out to be a replica BB handgun and the man was taken into custody without incident.

Police charged him with possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and he will appear in court Saturday.

There were no injuries, police added.

Remove that orange cap and in the middle of the night tell me that you can 100% say if its a fake or not.

This guy is stupid, the police likely would have been cleared to jump to fatal response and it just would have been another stat. BB and airsoft guns are looking more and more like the real thing everyday, even paintball guns are. They only sell them to people over 18 but they should also have another requirement an IQ above 40. Should save ourselves a lot of time.

and let alone that has already happened with that incident a few years ago ,where the guy was pointing a BB gun at police and they shot him because the BB gun appeared to be real , this is not a joke i would've called the cops to if some jerk was flashing this thing at me or people around me . you never know!

hey trent...if someone ran up to you in an agressive manner and pointed this BB gun at you, would you think it was so funny then? Speaking from experience, it is pretty difficult to determine the difference when your heart is in your throat..and you think you are about to lose a lot more than an eye.

Obviously, his lawyer will fight this fact Im sure of it...The case will be thrown out making this entire episode a big waste of time & money to the court system.

Attn: Tbaynewswatch. Stop calling BB guns and airsoft guns "replicas" because they are not. "replica firearms" are prohibited weapons that are ILLEGAL to buy and sell in Canada and generally do not even fire a projectile. This kid most likely bought it at crappy tire.

Yeah the writing should have said a replica handgun capable of shooting BB's. But these projectile shooting devices do look a lot like the real McCoy. I have a couple of pellet pistols that look and feel like the real thing. It is obvious the individual wanted suicide by cop or was just a little out in left field. Either way, a positive out come. Nobody dead, nobody traumatized.

blaster doesnt know anything. a "replica" firearm can be and is legal. However pointing it at someone making them think it's real is illegal. Just like a pencil is not a "weapon" but stabbing someone with it is assault with a weapon.
