Three teens have been charged in connection with the vandalism of a school in the city.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say they’ve charged three males, ages 15, 17, and 18-year-old, after property was spray painted in the Superior High school area.

“Currently we have three individuals who have been charged with 13 counts each of mischief over $5,000,” said city police Const. Julie Tilbury during an interview with CKPR Radio.

“The 15-year-old also has some other charges, such as breach of probation.”

Police also say there were several reports of spray painted buildings and vehicles in that area during the weekend.

18 years old and spray painting cars? I was already living on my own juggling school and work to pay rent. Time to teach these kids some responsibility.

Agreed. Make them clean it all up. Pay for the supplies themselves or through their legal guardians. The usual breach of probation. I'm not surprised. And, if anybody tried to stop them, he/she would be charged instead of the perpetrators. An absurd world we live in where the criminals can do whatever they please with few or no consequences.

What probably will happen is that they will be charged and receive either probation or be sent to Juvie. There they will just become worse.

I prefer your approach. Remedy the problem. Do some things that build in apathy and give the kids a chance to grow up.

"Now go to your room and watch TV , play video games and eat your pizza."

How shocking!
Another Thunder Bay youth with a 'Breach of Probation' charge!
Perhaps if society applied stiffer consequences to youth criminals, there would be fewer adult criminals.

Stiffer consequences has been proven time and time again (and well documented) to be completely ineffective. What we need to do is go to the root of the problem. Whey are these kids breaking the law in the first place?

Stop giving people a reason to break the law and you'll have fewer criminals.

Maybe it might take a few teens spray painting a few prosecutor's and judge's houses before they take notice and think about setting a new precident.

You tried re-education...it didn't work.
You tried probabtion...it isn't working
You tried the Young Offender's Act...it will never work.

2012 is a lot different than 1969 and 1975. Let's get with the times and deal with the issues of today.

Let's try the obvious solution.

Education.

The only reason people break the law is because they've been educated to or because they have no other choice (as far as they're concerned).

If we educate people about why crime is detrimental to their well being and if we ensure that people have no reason to commit crimes, we won't have as many criminals.

It looks like everyone that gets cought lately is on probaltion. It's time to refuse the probations and there will be less crime.

I know.....why doesn't the city do what they did before....erect a wall so the kids can spray paint to their hearts content or pay some of them to paint murals and other stuff along Simpson Street like before....that should teach them that crime does not pay......Oh wait.....I guess with lots of practise it actually does.

If my child managed to commit a crime under my watchful eye, I would race to the scene and be held accountable in some way. Thats probably what the parents of these children will do too. Right about.........NEVER! Adults these days do not believe in accountability. They believe in TV.
