A Greenstone OPP officer has been charged following an investigation by the Provinces Special Investigations Unit.

Officials say a 42-year-old man's eye was seriously injured following an interaction with the officer at the Greenstone detachment in February.

As a result Const. Brian Bellefeuille is charged with assault causing bodily harm and mischief.

He is scheduled to appear in court on August 16.

i wonder if this police officer is getting a paid holiday for this!! meaning these cops get suspended with pay when something like this happens, so what is that teaching them, and what does that show other cops?

It shows them that they are innocent until proven guilty and shouldn't lose their lively-hood based only (at this point in time)on an allegation.

No where does it say in the article that this officer is getting a paid holiday, first of all.....secondly,...dont assume it is always the police's fault when something like this occurs.....I am sure there is more to this story and in due time we will all know the facts dont be so quick to judge our police!

If you compare the successful number of prosecutions the SIU against the large number of frivilous charges they have laid, you will see what a ridiculous entity the SIU really is!
Sure we need oversight of the police by someone, but not an organization that goes on witch hunts to justify its' very existence!
I would think that if any police officer laid as many charges as the SIU, and had such a poor conviction rate, their credibility as an officer would be brought into question.
Paid holiday? I doubt it...spending each day wondering if you will have a job tomorrow because a group of pompous, inneffective investigators have your career in their hands!
Best of luck to the officer involved. The truth will come out in the end.

Innocent until proven guilty and shouldnt lose their lively-hood. These comments just make me see red. Do you know that if someone on disability or mothers allowance ect low income sorts, if someone calls this so called hot line and reports that these people are cheating these agencies some way or another. Their low income check is put on suspension until THEY THEMSELVES PROVE THEY ARE INNOCENT OF THE ALEGATIONS.I have respect for our law inforcement ect. but if ANYONE is charged with something or accused they should not be able to just sit back and still get paid while the investigation is on. Put their checks on hold and see how they get on.
People who can just call in anytime they want and report someone should have to leave their name and phone and if the so called allegations are proven to be false then this person should be charged.

I'm trying to figure out exactly why you would "see red" when an officer is suspended with pay while awaiting to see if he/she is actually convicted of any crime.

Innocent until proven guilty is the backbone of any modern judicial system. This officer was charged, that is all, not convicted.
Who should buy back his house 6-12months later if he is aquitted? You? Didn't think so.
If he is convicted then perhaps he should lose his job and livelyhood (like the officer from Terrace Bay) AFTER he has had his day in court, not before, just like anyone else.

If he worked at Walmart and was charged with assault, would you be commenting then? Would this site publish his name? Would Walmart fire him or suspend his pay?.... absolutely not.

Put the words "police officer" in the story and whole dynamic changes.
Yes I back the police and support them.
Yes I will condemn this officer and his actions IF he's convicted... then only then. Sensationalization in tabloid form.

Thank God we have a organization like the SIU, they do not frivously lay charges, the crown attourney lays the charges after a thorough investigation by the SIU and at times other police officers like in the death of my daughter, Charged officers getting paid for breaking the law and hurting or killing people they swore a oath to protect is a JOKE, we will see Sept 10th, how frivilous or useless the SIU are...
