City police are investigating the possible armed robbery of a local pharmacy.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say officers responded to a report of a robbery at Janzens Pharmacy on 129 Frederica Street West at about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say a lone male wearing a disguise entered the store armed with what they describe as an edged weapon.

The male fled the pharmacy with an undisclosed amount of property.

Police say no injuries were reported as a result of the robbery.

The suspect is described as a heavy set man who was wearing a dark hoodie, which covered his face.

The suspect is still at large and police continue to investigate.

Dear dopedoctor - If you don't like living in Thunder Bay, move and see if you find a better place, everyone would appreciate it!

Was this the reason police with dogs and armed soldiers were wandering down Walsh St?

Entirely possible. I have no idea. Just saw the picture posted on facebook and people were trying to figure out why they were out.

Dog is for tracking the suspect down.

Gear/weapons are for armed and dangerous suspect. Maybe he was seen in the Walsh street area? It's not that far away from Frederica.

Sui Generis says:
No kidding. I don't recall asking why the dog was out, or why people carried weapons. I asked if this article was why THESE particular folks were on Walsh St, considering the proximity to the robbery.
*sigh*

a snide remark isn't needed, I merely misread your remark. You wrote "was" my brain read "what". I apologize profusely for making an error.

I was out taking a walk during one of the brief periods when it wasn't raining yesterday, and ran into those fellows.
Rifles in the street, camouflage gear and combat boots.
I am as furious as everyone else about these ridiculous Mac's and pharmacy robberies, but one has to ask if this is not an overreaction to some half-wit junkie armed with a kitchen knife.

Tiredofit says:
Stephen, had the "half-wit junkie with a kitchen knife" taken you or a loved one hostage it wouldn't be an overreaction now would it. Personally I'm glad they showed up in full force, money well spent in my eyes.

I have a kitchen knife a carving knife to be exact that looks more like a short sword.
add to that a half wit with the ability to swing that knife, you looking at death by blood loss in minutes.

Pretty sad ALCOHOL is so cheap but all in all, if it was more expensive, you would be seeing these robberies @ the liquor stores too...

Glad oxycontin is banned, just look at the reduction in violent crime!!

Tiredofit says:
There are still several forms of Oxy available on the market, they only removed one formula. Percocet, Oxycet, Percodan and serval others are still there. Only the highly concentrate was removed from the market. May believe it was only removed and reformulated because Purdue Pharmacutical's patent was about to expire opening the market for generic versions, the new OxyNeo simply protects their patent for another 25 years or so.
