Lakehead Public Schools trustees passed the school board’s 2012-2013 operating budget.

The balanced statement comes in at just less than $131.4 million.

Some of the highlights include a commitment to maintain social workers in schools, support for e-learning in the secondary school system, and the commitment to maintain full-time senior kindergarten programs in existing schools.

The budget was approved by the board during a public board meeting Tuesday evening.

I remember when I was in Elementary School, we had Intermurals, field trips, and King Fisher for science. The intermurals were a perfect way for getting the students active with all sorts of sports activities tailored to their likings. As soon as they took those away in 1998 (Miraculously the year I made it into high school so I never had to experience this), the kids began getting lazier and lazier, and now we have a huge child obesity problem. Get the intermurals back and let the kids go out and enjoy themselves.

This article has no context or meaning without a comparison to something else. However, it is ominous that taxpayers are funding babysitting so that single parents can earn a living.

@Escroft. My son is in grade 2, and in the last year has gone to Kingfisher, the Old Fort, and numerous other Field Trips. He also joined the cross country running team (yes he was old enough) and can't wait to play all the other sports his school does.

Are you sure the took everything away?? Maybe it has changed in the last 14 years or so.
