Vehicle allegedly ran off the road on Highway 11/17

By Jeff Labine, tbnewswatch.com
Brake Repairs! Front Ends! Mufflers! Shocks! Not just mufflers - MINUTE MUFFLER, 677 Memorial Avenue. Open Monday-Saturday. Email: tminutemuffler@shaw.caClick here for details.

A woman driver received minor injuries after her vehicle was forced off the roadway and slammed into a ditch along Highway 11/17.

OPP officers and other emergency services responded to the incident just after 2 p.m. Saturday.

Police say the vehicle went into a ditch a few kilometres down the road from the Mackenzie Rest Inn.

The driver was taken to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with minor injuries.

The driver spoke to tbnewswatch.com Monday and said the white transport truck was heading westbound toward Thunder Bay as she drove east toward Pass Lake. She said the truck began travelling in the eastbound lane she was in, which forced her off the roadway.

The investigation is ongoing.

please don't leave ignorant comments like this when you don't know the circumstances that lead to the accident.

thanks.

Please tell me how you came to a thought of saying "Lucky they didn't hit a Police Cruiser!" Its a very very odd statement to make.

ON2BC says:
Couldn't possibily have been because of the dolt that hit the police cruiser in a story that was just posted yesterday.

Another incident involving a transport, it cut in to her lane to go around some construction leaving her nowhere to go but off the shoulder.

the article mentions nothing of a transport truck, but that is the case, it is very much possible to safely put two wheels on the shoulder at highway speeds and not roll your vehicle. In fact, they teach it in driving school (well, they did 15 years ago when I was in it)

plus, (if that was the case of a transport truck in your lane) when you pay attention to the road and surroundings you would probably realize that construction is causing oncoming vehicles to get close to the center line, and you might just have to be prepared for that..

but again, I'm just making stuff up, I don't know the circumstances behind what happened. Maybe she's a terrible driver, maybe a tire blew? Who knows.

The article doesn't mention much because they don't know the facts.

I'm not sure where they got that the car "rolled"... this is untrue. Does the roof of this vehicle look like it was rolled?

This is not the place to get into the details of an accident but tbnewswatch your information is incorrect.

When you're traveling at highway speed and a transport cuts in front of you, you have two choices - move, or get run over. Had the truck been "close to the center line" that would be one thing. When three-quarters of it is in your lane you have nowhere to go but all four wheels off the shoulder. They don't teach you that in driving school.

well, the article was since updated, and yes, it doesn't sound like it flipped, more like rolled on its wheels into the ditch.. this is news why? I passed a vehicle that took out a bunch of guard rails a few weeks ago in conmee.. that never made news and sure caused a lot more damage...

I still stick to what I said earlier. If you're paying attention, you'd notice the construction zone and prepare for the fact that oncoming vehicles may enter your lane.

And all 4 tires on the shoulder? Yep, can still be done safely. swerve quickly or hit the brakes and you'll lose control. otherwise, can be done....

To only receive minor injuries from a rollover probably indicates that she was wearing a seat belt. It could have been worse, and thankfully it was not.

i drive on the 11-17 towards shuniah almost every day through the construction. even without construction it is dangerous... Almost 90% of the time i drive the expressway - pass lake stretch of the 11-17 i see drivers who are speeding excessively (im talking 130..140..) , passing on solid-lines and blind corners, passing 4 and 5 vehicles at a time.... I hope this close call gets a lot of highway drivers to open their eyes! Glad this woman was okay.

that CRV has hardly any damage!

what a great family vehicle if that car rolled w/o any damages on the outside! amazing

I don't know why everyone keeps saying that the vehicle rolled? I don't see that mentioned anywhere in the article. It just says that she was forced into the ditch. But maybe the article was edited from how it was originally posted.

Nice little story, if its even true.
Blame a trucker. Might be hear say.
Any excuse is better then none. If a truck was even involved?

obviously the wording of the story was changed as it did say it was a rollover on the first draft.

What you guys don't get is that this is propaganda.

a week or two from now, some politician that this publication likes is going to announce how he is going to fight to get us guard rails on Harbour Expressway Avenue... Or the police are about to do some sort of "blitz" around there soon.

Get it? Goebbels would be so completely jealous of the ability to have a publication such as this.

Quick fact: The word propaganda was changed to "public relations" after WWII to make it sound more friendly and un-German.
These are still public relations stories copied and pasted from government.

Call it what is, but don't call it "news"

I understand this is what the lady is saying but does it go with what the witnesses are saying. People always try to make themselves not at fault when a mishap happens. This is extremely one sided against transport drivers AGAIN

The Wolf says:
This is the second story in the last few weeks about a "phantom rogue" transport causing a single vehicle accident on the highway.

Perhaps CHBaker has a legit conspiracy theory.

Glad to hear the driver is ok. I had vehicle attempt to run me off the road a few days ago (NOT A TRANSPORT), because I pulled out to pass them and they wanted to be in the front and attempted to sideswipe me in an attempt to ram me into the far ditch. There's not enough information in this story to point a finger at transport drivers. These people are typically career professionals and for the most part take their career seriously, shouldn't jump to conclusions. I'd think if someone were to accidently drive off the road they would create an instigator to save face, not saying that's the case here. But who wants to go "Ya, I saw this really cool bird, next things I know I was in the ditch" doesn't have the same story appeal.
