Police have arrested a man in Kenora in connection with the Thunder Bay death of Adam Yellowhead.
A 33-year-old man was arrested without incident Friday night. He is being charged with second degree murder and is known to police.
Joseph Wesley made a video court appearance on Sunday and remains in custody. Wesley also faces an unrelated assault causing bodily harm charge from an Aug. 28 incident for an alleged Eira Street incident which sent a man to hospital. Wesley is due back in court on Sept. 6.
“There are some other issues surrounding this person and probably more charges are coming not for the homicide but for some other incidents,” Adams said Saturday.
The body of Yellowhead, a 65-year-old Thunder Bay resident, was found Wednesday morning in a grassy meadow at the end of Field Street, in the Intercity area. Investigators cordoned off the field to preserve a possible crime scene, at the time ruling the death suspicious.
“There’s certainly some evidence of intoxication surrounding these events,” Adams said.
Police aren’t saying why they think Yellowhead’s death was a homicide and are not releasing his autopsy results, saying they’re part of an ongoing investigation. Adams said those answers will come as part of the trial process.
It is the second homicide in Thunder Bay this year.
Thirty-five-year-old Sherman Kirby Quisses was killed in June after injuries suffered during a fight at the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre.
