QUEEN’S PARK – In light of looming cuts to the Ministry of Natural Resources, NDP critic Sarah Campbell is calling on Minister Michael Gravelle to lay out a clear plan for the cuts, and to consult with affected communities.

Communities across the North, such as Ignace, have voiced concerns that these government cuts could mean the closure of local MNR offices.

Campbell raised the issue at Queen's Park Thursday and asked the government to commit to full public disclosure and consultation before the government makes further cuts.

Gravelle was not at Queen's Park to respond to Campbell's comments, as he was in Thunder Bay.

He said the government is dealing with a significant internal deficit, and there are some very real challenges ahead.

Ignace Mayor Lee Kennard said cuts to offices in small towns like Ignace will have serious economic impacts on these communities in the future.  The Ignace MNR office has 11 employees.
