Police investigating suspicious Hazelwood Lake area fire

By tbnewswatch.com

OPP continue to investigate a suspicious fire just north of Thunder Bay at the Hazelwood Lake Conservation Area.

Lappe fire crews responded to a call around 7:45 a.m. Thursday. Firefighters spent several hours battling the blaze, which consumed a log cabin owned by the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority.

LRCA vice-chair Donna Blunt said the recently renovated cabin was being used to run educational programming.  She called the news disheartening, adding that the loss of the facility affects not only the Conservation Authority, but the public as a whole.

Blunt said the beach area at the conservation site remains open to the public.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Thunder Bay detachment of the OPP or Crime Stoppers.
