Kenora crash kills prisoner, SIU investigating

A prisoner is dead after the police car she was in collided with a tractor trailer Sunday.

Kenora OPP were transferring a 42-year-old female prisoner in a marked cruiser when it collided with the tractor trailer at the junction of Hwy 17A and Hwy 568 around 2 a.m. Sunday.

The woman was killed. The two officers were taken to Lake of the Woods District Hospital and were released. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured.

The Special Investigations Unit has been notified.

I work in this area, travel this highway at least once a week. Once the sun sets the trucks come out in full force and they are amongst the worst drivers in the world! Most of them are not from Canada as well, they do not know how to drive on our highways, especially once the snow flies! Swerve all over the road, always on the wrong side of the yellow lines, take curves too fast and just saw one on his bloody ipad the other day! Getting worse out there every day.

That is a bad stretch of road that has seen far too many tragedies since the by-pass was built in the early 90's.
