Dryden residents learned financial restraints were the reason behind council’s decision to potentially sell its municipally run phone services.

Dryden officials held a public meeting Thursday to let residents know about the pending sale of Municipal Telephone Service to Bell Aliant and Dryden Mobility to TBayTel. Dryden city council began working on an exit plan from the service in 2011, and recently announced their plans to sell.

City manager Joe Van Koeverden made a presentation displaying how the municipality has found itself in such financial restraint.

The presentation outlined details from the two offers, including dates to when the deals would be finalized. TBayTel will be assuming all mobility customers at a price that has yet to be announced, which Van Koeverden addressed as "more than fair." Bell Aliant will takeover and continue to operate DMTS through a seamless transition, at a purchase price of $4.5 million, with no change in rates for landline or Internet at this time.

Van Koeverden says the city decided to "retain and grow" its mobility by investing $15 million into an eventually outdated technology.

Van Koeverden says the service's budget was reported separately from normal city operations and that the warning signs were simply not understood and added the decision to move forward with the investment overlooked the possibility that it could backfire.

The final decision on the offers will be made at an open council meeting on Oct. 3.

Now if we can just get K-net switched over to the same frequency as Tbaytel HSPA.
K-net jumped on board the DMTS GSM night mare and installed obsolete towers in the northern reserves.

What I fail to understand is all the secrecy surrounding TBayTel's purchase offer...the selling price to Bell Aliant was made public when this story initially ran on this same website last week....another scenario I have with TBayTel is that I have requested over the years their annual finncial....and never once did I ever actually receive it...they and city council simply put me on ignore...after all this is a company that is owned by you and I the taxpayers....I firmly believe I and anyone else has the right to see the numbers plain and simple. I have not given up my quest for this document....and in the near future will file the required legal documentation which will in turn force the hand of the powers to be in this city to finally cough up the requested information.

Seeing as how you're a public spokesperson for tbaytel, allow us to follow up on the junk you post on this website by leaving the required information.

You preach professionalism yet you cannot even interact on a public board without spewing pure vitriol towards your very own customers.

You remind us day by day what a disgrace tbaytel is to the telecom world.

You're lucky the city has a dog in this fight or you would be forced to get a real job.

Still carrying a flame for me I see. I waited all morning for your call.

Dryden residents have now seen how Tbaytel employees handle their customers. I see that you're stalling when it comes to leaving your name. Generally public relations officials have no issue doing that. So, keep on doing what you do best. Badmouth customers and brag about how you enjoy closing peoples accounts. Truly are a hero. Like I said, you're lucky the city has a piece of this pie or you would be working at walmart.

I suggest readers visit the Tbaytel facebook page and other related Tbaytel stories.

The facts are the facts. Sign on with them , pay a ridiculous inflated price for intermittent CITY service while being told it's your problem.

It must drive you insane that the competition has arrived. Oh I know I know .... the transfer of unappreciative blasphemous customers is a blessing as it relieves the strain on the junk infrastructure you guys refuse to fix.

What a joke. You work for Tbaytel so leave your name big shot!

debt collector says:
Big shot? Tool? Keep 'em coming, and you're the guy accussing others of using personal attacks rather than facts.

You can believe what you want, I stated several times that I work for a collection agency and not tbaytel. Call tbaytel and ask them if they do collections in house, you'll quickly find out they assign uncollectable accounts to a third party for recovery.

Time for the morning java, you have wonderful day at school pumpkin.

CGA says:
You never once stated you work for a collections agency. You never once provided the contact information for said company. You know you're speaking with a troll when all they can do is create events (in apparent writing) that never happened.

So I will believe it when i see it. Leave the information for us here. We will then notify tbaytel that you are speaking on their behalf.

You respond to every legitimate concern regarding tbaytel, "EVERY" concern, with some unjustified diatribe.

Talk about exposed. Enjoy your quality job.

And I quote...

"Why would my boss care that I've made comments about tbaytel issues? We make our living off people who fail to meet their payment obligations to hundreds of different companies.

My boss loves the fact I call BS on people, it allows me to close a lot accounts others weren't able to collect on."

Which part of "...hundreds of different companies" did you miss?

I love fall, students tend to use their OSAP to pay their collections in hopes of repairing the credit they defaulted on last year.

Bell Mobility Launch, October 3rd. Have you got your stuff together to switch yet?
Also, you speak of disrespecting others etc etc, are you stating that there is something wrong with working at Walmart? I am sure that there are a lot of hard working people with a job at Walmart that would not be pleased with hearing that sad remark. You are pathetic, and need to go away.
10/2/2012 9:35:39 AM
CGA says:
Don't want to respond to the facts presented and legitimate issues from more than 50 users? Ok.

Disrespecting others ... oh , you mean calling out a sleazebag who writes nothing but vitriolic statements towards any user expressing their frustration with the worlds worst telecom company? Sure. Read the TBAYTEL expanding story. R
10/2/2012 6:37:12 PM
realist says:
Your evidence disputing becker's post is that more than 50 users are having issues? Given the fact you've claimed to be a CGA, then you should know that means 0.0005% of all tbaytel's cellular customers are unhappy.

Someone lock the doors before all the horses escape the barn.
10/4/2012 8:27:39 AM
CGA says:
As for the walmart comment. Put that thinking cap on a bit tighter. Focus on issues that matter, and don't misrepresent what I say to make a cheap shot. You ... are a joke.

Goodnight.

CGA, Jimmyboy
Sadly you need to take a business course and if "CGA" is really a CGA you would understand how public and private owned compnaies operate.

Also, educate yourselves on how cell system work BEFORE you broadcast your ignorance

Education trumphs ignorance.

reply to "thepoorman"...really...you are saying the residents of Thunder Bay do not own it.!!!

So please enlighten me as to who does and how it is all structured.??? This I have too hear.!

becker says:
"As Thunder Bay’s first and only municipally-owned telephone company, Tbaytel has grown to become the largest independently owned telecommunications provider in Canada"

Was municipally owned, grew to become independently owned. Is that deciphered enough for you to understand? You do not have any legal right to view any financial information from TbayTel.
10/1/2012 9:18:22 AM
becker says:
By your logic, the public also owns Burger King too, because the public purchases their product as well right? Have you asked them for their annual financial statements? You should be taking legal action.

thepoorman says:
Sure. See the part in the first paragraph when it says "...Tbaytel has grown to become the largest independently owned telecommunications..."?

I don't want to have to explain what "independently owned" means, since that would make me very sad.

I'm going to pretend that you understand words, so I'm just going to say this: YOU HAVE TO READ THE WHOLE THING.

Whatever he context of independently owned my mean in this conversation Tbaytel gives dividends to City of Thunder Bay yearly in the millions of dollars. So why the concern over the price paid for dry dens system, when our council had he vision of installing a board of directors to operate Tbaytel they would know the cost jimmy boy needs to call upon that layer of government for his answers unles he's trying to spur on conversation. In either case he is rather negative in his views in its self probably not a totally wrong approach, but not a constructive form of communicating!
