More and more residents are beginning to turn to home heating as temperatures continue to drop outside.

That’s led local firefighters to begin reminding residents to make sure they are turning the heat on safely. Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief David Paxton said residents should inspect the area around their furnace before turning it on.

“People should look at having their furnaces serviced annually,” Paxton said during an interview with CKPR Radio. “You should make sure you have removed any combustibles out of the room of the furnace.”

He added that flood victims still waiting for a furnace need to be careful when they select their alternative heat source, and should ensure they are chosing a CSA approved appliance.

Yawn. Next will come the door to door smoke alarm check.

Yup. We pay people $75000 per year + big time benefits to do what a high schooler could do.

With the time wasted on this, you could fire them, and buy every last house in the city new smoke alarms every few years, plus free batteries for life.

Seeing you don't like firemen, and police, don't call the protective services in the city, if and when your in need of the services. Let us know how you make out doing it all by yourself.
