QUEEN'S PARK -- Seniors can look forward to a new tax credit to help pay for their home improvement projects.

The Healthy Homes Renovation Tax Credit Act passed third reading in the Ontario Legislature Tuesday.

Seniors who own or rent homes, and people who share a home with a senior relative, will be able to receive a tax credit worth up to $1,500 each year.

The province says the credit will make it more affordable to complete home renovations and installations to help seniors stay in their homes, and prevent falls and injuries.

In order to be able to take advantage of this tax credit the people using it will need to have money to do the repairs.

This is one of those rich get richer tax breaks when the real people that need the financial break are left out in the cold once again as they struggle to pay their heating bills.

This is just another smoke screen before coming elections to silence those most affected and have them give their votes to the ones who are responsible first of all for seniors and lower income people finding they can no longer pay higher taxes and costs for various things like gas and heat and electricity. And like some stated, this is only for the richer of the cash strapped families and seniors because you need to pay for it first then hope you get the 1500$ somewhere down the road and we all know how long it takes for the government to pay out money they owe us vs how fast they are to take your money when they say you owe them. This is just another smoke screen.
