Thunder Bay Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying three suspects who allegedly robbed the Mac’s Convenience Store on Hodder Avenue early on Sunday morning.

Police on Tuesday released captured images of the three suspects, who demanded cash and cigarettes before fleeing the store headed southbound.

They’re described as being about 5-foot-10, all wearing long dark jackets and covered faces. Two of the suspects had dark hoodies pulled up over their heads and the third was wearing a red, black and white toque with ear flaps.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crime or the identity of the suspects to contact them at 684-1200 or Crime Stoppers at 623-8477.

Macs should go to having no entry after dark. They do this at gas/convenience stores throughout North America and it may well be time for Thunder Bay to think along these lines.

Lots of convenience stores in problem areas of other cities put in a lexan booth around the cash / cigarette area. I'm not sure why Mac's doesn't just do this... Too cheap? Is there a study that says they aren't really effective as a deterrent? I'm honestly not sure, but it seems like it would take care of the most important thing, which is employee safety.

It does not matter what Macs does really, if they put enough security in place to eliminate these robberies then the robbers will just find another place to rob.

It is a systemic failure of the courts that is the problem. These robbers know that even if caught, at worst they will get a slap of the wrists and told not to do it again. With no deterrents in place it is basically a free for all out there.

Someone may recognize the distinct Dodge hat the one person is wearing, maybe they know this person and who they were with that night?

I agree with nvjgu, post some pictures that will help, unless that's the only dodge hat in tbay, which i doubt, looks like a wallyworld special to me hahaha...When will Mac's learn? and if they can't why are they still operating?

You don't think they would post better pictures if they had them? I doubt these guys came into the store and then covered up their faces.

heres a suggestion move the cameras to a lower spot so that it catches ppls face at face level and not the top fo there heads ??? hmm would that help ??? HELLO !
10/9/2012 9:39:23 PM
stuck? says:
Cameras are positioned to keep an eye on the clerk (partially to make sure they themselves don't steal) as well as to keep an eye on the whole store and offer a better vantage point than just being eye level and not being able to see behind certain blockages.

I agree though, that there needs to be a better placed camera (as in adding another camera to get pictures at eye level).

I'm still trying to figure out why it takes three morons to rob a Mac's store? Would it not make more sense for one to go in rather than three idiots going in together and making the odds 3 times higher your going to get caught. Wow, there are some really dumb criminals in this city.

So horrible, I do not shop at macs anymore, I have refused to ever since the one employee protected himself, people need these jobs, and its a tragedy that they have to fear work, for the sake an idiot may come in and rob them, so sad, as for macs, they really need to figure this out, they are for some odd reason a huge target, and they need to start providing safety for thier employees, somehow, someway, or your gonna lose all your customers who are giving their money to these robbers,

Mac's needs to start closing at 10 or 11pm, we don't need these stores open after that time. This has become a joke, and you are putting your staff at risk.

Sui Generis says:
Speak for yourself. Apparently many DO need convenience stores open at that time of night, or the cost to keep it open wouldn't benefit the company and they WOULD close it.

Superstore closes at 11. Walmart, 11. Where do you think night shift workers do half their shopping?

Why cant a Macs employee sue for job endangerment as these robberies are not a freak occurrence. They are well documented and Macs knows and refuses to do a thing to help the employees!! Boycott Macs stores

unionbay880 says:
Simple solution would be to alternate an armed officer around different stores. The word will get out and the bad guys may have a very bad day one night.

I used to work security for Mac's a few years ago. I was in charge of security for all the stores in town. I tried over and over again to impliment changes such as a walk up window at night. Management didn't want to hear any of it. The most they ever did was install some exterior lighting after I nagged them about it for months. They just don't care. They are all about making money and that's it. They don't care about their employees including myself at the time. I was expected to take care of internal/external theft and all the robberies myself. After six moths of getting nowhere I quit. It was only a matter of time before I got jumped or killed following some idiot outside because they stole a pop or choclate bar. Mac's wouln't hire me a partner or provide me with the proper tools to do the job effectively. Mac's, YOU FAIL!! As for the police, they treat Mac's as a joke. They were very unprofessionl everytime I called them to come get someone I had arrested. So I quit. LOL!
