A new partnership between Tbaytel and the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board will see $100,000 invested into the school system to support new technology for students.

All Catholic Board schools could reap the benefits of the cash injection over the next five years.

The school board has already invested heavily in new laptops, smartboards and iPads, and Wednesday's announcement will ensure further investments in the children's education.

TbayTel President Don Campbell said he's seen the positive impact that technology can have on the classroom.

The board showed a video at the event highlighting the positive effects that new technologies have been having in the children's learning.

Director of Education Joan Powell says it's changing the way classes are being taught.

The $100,000 will be put towards new technology, computer programs, and teacher training.

I'm all for this but why only to the catholic school board?? My kids are in the public board and deserve the same opportunity....if tbaytel wants to support education they should be doing it fairly and making a donation to both school boards.

Because a lot of us think all school boards should be Catholic. Separation of church and education is the reason why our great nation is in such dire straights. Hope this sets an example.

A lot of us disagree with this. I only attended Catholic schools and hated it. I had to miss out on some classes I was interested in because we were forced to attend a class on religion. I got yelled at when I was very young because I took communion at mass with all the other kids when I shouldn't have. "Devil Sticks" were banned, and then only allowed if renamed "Angel Sticks", certain card games weren't allowed because someone with too much power and time on their hands thought they were evil. Being forced to take part in all that religious stuff pushed me away from it, and I know I'm not the only one. More and more people feel the same way now because we're capable of thinking for ourselves and seeing through the BS. The Catholic School Board shouldn't have some funding taken away that the Public school board doesn't receive.

I teach for the Catholic Board. Sounds good for us. Maybe your Board needs to set up a proposal with TBay Tel.Or move your kids to the Catholic Board (higher EQAO results). Just saying.

So you're better at teaching to the test. Good for you. I'd rather see kids excel in critical thinking, but I know your board doesn't encourage that.

Nobody is pushing it down your throats you dont have to go there neither do you kids! If you dont want your taxes to go the catholic board you have a choice. Face it the catholic systme is wayyy better. Results dont lie.

You DO NOT have a choice as to which board your taxes go to. That ended under the Harris government in the mid 90's when the province took over funding of jk - 12 education. You only indicate which board you want to vote trustee's for.
THEREFORE, an athiest like myself who KNOWS the world is round and NOT in the centre of the universe has no choice but to fund the catholic school system through my taxes.
So in effect, through the paying of taxes, catholisim IS being forced down my throat. I don't appreciate it. Nor do I appreciate the condecending higher than thou attitudes of any (virtually all) religions when they spout off. Believe what you want...just don't try to convert those who don't...inquisition, crusades, nazism anyone?

To barry medawin...Your posting is extremely offensive. I am not catholic and DO NOT want my children educated in a school that shoves religion down their throats!! Your suggestion that all children should be subjected to this is foolish!!! We live in a free society with freedom of religion!!!

As for TBaytels donation, it should have been a donation to one school from each school board or nothing at all! Remember this is a company owned by the city of Thunder Bay and as such should in no way be showing favoritism to one school board or another.

Religion is not a choice sir! When your day of judgement comes, you will understand this in a BIG WAY. Perhaps you are the one forcing them to ignore the truth? It's not too late for anyone to see the truth.

Stick to the topic.

My Son goes to Catholic School and amoung a number of reason why we decided to put him in Catholic School was that he would have religion in his day in the form of The Lord's Prayer and Mass at Christmas and Easter ..it was more in line with out christian beliefs ... If you don't believe in God then that is what the public board is for!! If you are sending your child to Catholic School i would hope you would be intelligent enough to know what would be tought for heaven's sake!! As far as the donation i say good for them and maybe in due time other schools will benefit!!

Religion has no place in a publicly funded school system. Religious teachings are for at home and at church, not grouped together with science, math, etc. The fact that we have these two seperatly funded school boards is ridiculous. Why not publicly funded Islamic schools? We would be able to provide better education and more funding to single school board.

A NEW PARTNERSHIP between Tbaytel and the Catholic School Board will see $100,000 invested into the school system to support new technology for students.
What part of that paragraph did you miss in your haste to file a complaint?

Sounds like these two sat down and had a chat, and formed a partnership. The public system wasn't invited to the party or maybe they didn't ask to be part of the meeting.
Could be lots reasons. Don't be getting on Tbaytel or the Catholic School board over why the public system wasn't included. Direct your complaints to the public school board.

One school all the money is going towards and it so happens that this school has many of thunder bay's most powerful people sons and daughters. Many are doctors, lawyers and so on. People in the neighborhood won't allow their kids to go there because of the constant bigotry, even the teachers are blind to it. So lets spoil the already spoiled. I already hear that all those awesome computers are used mainly to play a popular game called minecraft. Lets give them more tech toys to play minecraft on different devices from ipads to laptops to desktop computers and if the students were clever enough they would find a way to play it on a smart board. What a weird world we live in where the school that has the wealthiest children gets the best stuff.

TBAY TEL is basically advocating catholicism with this gesture. Nice move and don't worry about the rest of us heathens. We will purchase our -Iphones and Blackberries from Bell. Welcome Bell! I bet you weren't expecting overnight success when opening in Thunder Bay at the very convenient Intercity location, but it was only a matter of a few days before TBay Tel would tick off more than half of the city. They exhibit catastrophic failure on a regular basis. Between their awful service and their lack of foresight or business strategy BELL should get some syrup and eat them like a pancake for breakfast.

I find the terms "catholic children" or "moslem chilren" rather offensive and sinister. Inculcate youth to believe in Fairy Tales, or else you DON'T GRADUATE? Go to a catholic school, pronounce religion as the bunk it is, and let's see how far they'll let you continue your education unharrased. Where's the Freedom of Choice, to make up one's own mind, instead of having a mythology forced upon you as a child? I consider it a form of intellectual child abuse.

Catholics of course will be happy, but the majority of the population however is not Catholic and choosing one School board over the other is a giant mistake. It goes against my beliefs to be attached to any donation to a religious institution, organization and yes school board. I can see Catholic school supporters question why this is a bad thing? Well if the tables were turned and Catholic schools were consistently getting snubbed, and were underfunded Im pretty sure an angry outcry would be heard. Its sad an equal donation was not made towards the Public Schools, however I am not surprised. Goodbye Tbaytel, Hello Bell! :)

This is unbelievable. A company partners with a school board to benefit the education of children and some see this as a bad thing? Interject Religion and favouritism for what purpose? I tip my hat to Tbaytel for supporting one of Thunder Bay's school boards. I hope they consider others in the future too. Those threatening to cancel your service with Tbaytel and go to Bell is like cutting your nose off to spite your face. Do you really think you'll gain support with comments like that?

The Public Board is doing just fine with their technology. Smart Boards, IPads, their IT people are incredible and wifi. Who cares if TBaytel makes partners with the Catholic Board. I would not think that 100,000 dollars for technology will get them very far anyway.

The public board is doing so well with their technology and IT staff that their students are consistently underperforming relative to the Catholic students.

Leaving religion out of the picture, anyone who wants their child to have a superior education should support the separate school board.

I think a vast majority of people here upset that it is only the catholic board receiving the money are a tad misinformed. The catholic board APPROACHED TbayTel, requesting an agreement, which was approved. If the public board would like something, then they can APPROACH TbayTel, and likely the same agreement will be made. Why is this so hard to understand, bunch of losers on here that do not get it.

lori says:
first of all, the insultive comments are quite unnecessary. Those against religion, fine. You don't need to damn a whole group of people because they are.

The person who said that those who don't believe in the one true religion will be damned, you need some help. I was raised catholic. But my catholicism allows for God to recognize that not everyone will agree or observe. I cannot believe a truely loving God would punish and hurt those who have not found him. Our religion is based on faith not proof and it has a set of guidelines that put kindness, respect and love towards others at the top. Exercise it towards those who are not religious. For those who aren't religious allow those who are religious the right to believe.

Having said all of that, it misses the whole bigger point of the story.

Great for the school, but I wish Tbaytel could take some of this energy and actually fix their system. Now that would be newsworthy.
