THUNDER BAY -- Firefighters and members of the coast guard were involved in a rescue of two people from a sailboat Wednesday night.

The Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue were called to the rescue after the vessel became grounded at the south end of the harbour breakwall.

The craft will have to be recovered at a later time.

TBFR is the most valuable service in the city. They deserve every dime they are paid.

Lets also give credit to the Canadian Coast Guard for their help in the rescue as well. Another valuable service in this city and the surrounding areas!

Vanity as is stated in the article the coast guard attended so why don't you give credit to them as well. I recall your comments on another story where you praise the work of the fire dept. but fail to mention the other agencies that were there too! ie: Police who secured the scene, Paramedics who tended to the injured and Hydro who disconnected power to the residence.
I agree FD is valuable but the coast guard deserves some respect too! So next time please, before you pat yourself on the back give praise to all services involved.

To set the record straight, while Fire and Rescue had the first boat in the water, the Canadian Coast Guard had the boat which ultimately rescued us. I would like to personally thank the members of all the organizations involved in the rescue. They all deserve a great deal of credit for our safe return.

I imagine that if they had a cellphone, they could have simply had a buddy run out in another boat to pick them up. Will they be req'd to pay for the "rescue" service?

Are you just a troll? I imagine when my house is on fire if I had a pressure washer I could put the fire out myself.

As a boater I can tell you that the Coasties are always welcome. Their presence and professionalism is second to none. Glad things worked out somewhat OK for you Heather.
Wonder how things would have played out next year when dispatch is moved to Southern Ontario.

Glad everyone is OK!

As much as I hate to see good local jobs leave, the physical location of the dispatch center wouldn't have any negative impact on an incident like this. Stop the fear mongering!

Thumbs up to the Coast Guard. Great job guys!

Fear mongering, don't think so.
Losing local knowledge to what will amount to a remote call centre is hardly fear mongering when emergencies happen. Sorry you feel that way but that was not my intent.

I guess the boaters were distracted by the bent pole eyesore at the marina and went right into the wall...yet another con arises...still no pros!

I wonder how the abandoned craft faired out today? It was quite nasty out in the harbour today, both inside, and outside the breakwall.

Why the condescending remarks about who, what or when? Do you think you are teaching anybody anything with the rudeness? Why can't you just say "glad nobody was injured".

Tim H. says:
You should just take your own advice instead of trying to be the righteous one.

Or is it ok for you to state your opinion and nobody else can state theirs?

Im glad nobody got hurt. Now that they are OK, I hope the craft is.

Many craft that have become disabled in Lake Superior have a tragic end when the weather goes bad. Remember the Gramp Pa Woo? Thats just one in recent memory. Isle Royal is littered with the remains of similar events, as well as arears like Rossport, and even in our own harbour.

Why would anyone leave port on a sailboat at this time of the year?... Glad to hear no one got into trouble and their cell phone worked

Stupid people like this should have to pay all the fees and wages of all the rescue workers involved.
