THUNDER BAY -- Tips from concerned motorists have led police to charge a Winnipeg truck driver with impaired driving.

Officials with the OPP say a number of motorists contacted them after they saw an eastbound transport truck on Highway 11/17 in Shuniah drive onto the shoulder clipping several guardrails before pulling into a Pass Lake truck stop.

Police say officers detected alcohol on the driver’s breath and was believed to be over the legal limit.

Well you should stop and take a rest when you are feeling the affects of FATIGUE. As for those 40 pounders, bong hits, upper-downers and couple o beers, you know that is impaired driving.
No wonder those poor truck drivers have a stressful day dealing with people doing all those things you said you like to do while traveling.

And I guess there is no possibility it was related to a medical condition??
Lets hope the actual facts are presented to the public......not this guilty due to assumption B.S. typical reaction.

I'm sure the PD would rule out a medical condition before laying the charge. Police need evidence of the crime to satisfy a Judge, basic principal of law for some time now. I Don't see "guilty by assumption" as a "typical" problem in Canada.

Anyway, medical condition or not, wandering all over the road, clipping guard rails and such puts other road users at risk and he should't be driving.

Not to reflect on all professional drivers though. These guys are some of the best drivers on the road. Most 4 wheelers don't possess the skills necessary to operate a tractor trailer unit.

You're not serious.... bouncing off of guard rails is part of a medical condition too? It's called being illegally impaired....

Don't judge all trucker's by this idiot Lots of 4 wheeler drivers out there driving around drunk dosn't mean they all are. Vast majority of trucker's are out there just trying to work hard and feed their family's while trying to follow all the idiotic rules imposed by politician's that dontn't have a clue what it's really like out on the road

I was almost run off the road the other night on dawson road. I passed a truck in a passing lane, which apparently p***ed him off because he sped up a few kilometres later and passed me doing 130km/h by Emerald Greens. Fortunately I got his license.

TBDR, funny Ontario trucks are pegged at 105, and what did he have for power a jet, that an up hill grade.

The Wolf says:
You are correct that all trucks in Ontario are to have a 105km/h limiter however, very often out of province and out of country trucks do not have them and most have them altered to bypass the cap when they are not rolling in Ontario.

Buddy says:
No they're not. Where did you hear that? I know lots of truck drivers that do 120+ km/h all the time. Only certain compaines govern their trucks.

Sure if he was really impaired , nail him to the cross.
Now if he were lets say diabetic and having complications you will detect an alcohol odour.
All I am saying is be sure before you speak....or we will call you what you are.

I've read a lot of uninformed things on this website, but this tops the list.

So tell me TBDR, are you one of the new breed of fools on the highway that goes 120+ in the passing lanes then slow to 90 when they end just to be ahead of everyone else?
Those people deserve to be run off the road!
