FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Police continue to search for a boater from Mitaanjigaming First Nation.

Officers from the Rainy River detachment of the OPP and Treaty 3 Police Services continue to look for John Cochrane, 43, who left the community by boat at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Cochrane was going to harvest fire wood from an area across Stanijikoming Bay on Rainy Lake.

He was operating an 18 foot aluminum Lund boat with a 25-horsepower Mariner tiller motor. Family contacted police when he did not return home later that afternoon.

Three marine vessels began to patrol in an effort to locate the missing man, while emergency response teams from Treaty 3 Police and the OPP responded with assistance from an MNR helicopter.

Police continue their search and say more information will be made public as it becomes available.
