THUNDER BAY -- The province is cutting off the provincial wood supply for the Buchanan Group of Companies.

The struggling forestry giant has had all its sustainable forestry licenses revoked in the wake of on-going financial hardship.

Minister of Natural Resources Michael Gravelle calls the move standard government practice, saying the holder must surrender their license if their mills go into bankruptcy.

Gravelle adds that the move opens up opportunities for other organizations and communities to access to the Crown wood supply.

That's in line, he says, with the province's forest tenure modernization plan.Buchanan still owns sawmills in Longlac and Nakina.

Gravelle points out that the company can still secure a wood supply through business-to-business agreements with other companies.
