Lawyers representing Terrace Bay Pulp Inc. and Venshore Mechanical Ltd. had an initial court appearance today.

The two companies, along with three mill supervisors at the former Buchanan owned operation, are facing charges following last year’s deadly explosion at the mill.

It’s been 13 months since a tank exploded on the fourth floor of the mill. T.J. Berthalot, 28, died in the blast.

Terrace Bay Pulp and Venshore have been charged by the Ministry of Labour for failing to ensure the blow tank being worked on was free of any explosive or flammable substance.

There's also a charge for failing to ensure adequate supervision for the welding work on the tank.

The court case is expected to resume again in the New Year.
