THUNDER BAY -- Workers at Thunder Bay's Bombardier plant are breathing a sigh of relief after workers at their sister plant in Quebec voted to end a month-long strike.

Bombardier workers in La Pocatiere, Que., walked off the job on Nov. 1, But on Wednesday, they voted 82 per cent in favour of a new contract settlement.

A lengthy strike could have caused major problems at the Thunder Bay plant. The sidewalls and roofs for the TTC subway cars are built at the Quebec facility, and the stockpile at the local plant was close to running out.

CAW President Dominic Pasqualino said they're very glad the pickets voted to go back to work.

He added that if the strike had gone on another week or two, it would have halted production on the subway car line and led to major layoffs for workers at the Thunder Bay plant.
