Would have been a good idea to have a New Year's Eve skate with extended hours past mid-night.

Jon Powers says:

It would've been even better that you and everyone else pay for their skating at the park rather than having the "City Tax-Payer" pay for a very select elite to use the park.

It should be of note that it is the only city owned skating facility that does not charge a user fee.

All other "City" facilities do.

Merry Christmas! And
Happy New Years To All!

There are city owned open rinks all over the city that are free to skate. The one at the marina is essentially the same thing, it simply does not have boards around it.

I'm not a fan of some of the marina changes, but your complaints sound absolutely ridiculous. AND, to top it off, on an article regarding city Christmas events. Can you not at least lay off for the Christmas season and be happy that the city is hosting events for it's citizens to enjoy the holiday?

By select elitists you mean everyone who knows how to skate right? Cause there is no special elitist list that entitles you to skate here...

You’re welcome to skate at Marina (its open to the public not a “select elite”) or any of the other 50+ rinks run by the city, all with no user fees. To clarify, I also pay taxes on services that I don't use but I don't complain about it ever chance I get.

Jon: I am a regular skater at the waterfront. One of the best things that Parks and Rec. has done EVER ! The rink is for everyone who owns or can borrow some skates. Most of TBAY's rinks are free to the public except the indoor rinks.

I hope that TBAY invests in 2 or 3 more outdoor artificial rinks in the years ahead. They can be built for around $1.5 Million each. A single compressor can support a boarded hockey facility as well as a non boarded pleasure skating facility, beside each other. That eliminates any tension between the hockey players and the pleasure skaters.

very select elite? What planet are you on? Thousands of families poor, middle class, and wealthy, have used the rink/splashpad since it opened last december. Absolutely anyone that has the ability to access the park can use it.

Perhaps it could be clarified as to whether people will be allowed to skate there on Christmas Day, even if the building itself will be closed so someone doesn't have to work Christmas Day.

Common sense would tell me that if nobody is working, there won't be anybody there to kick you off the ice.

The best Christmas Gift you can give your community is stop wasting Public Tax Dollars!

If you can afford Skates than you should be able to pay $2. to get this park off the "Well-Fare Train". The BIA's.

The City Of Thunder Bay Needs Help Too!

Stop using the excuse that "The Government" paid for this so it's O K to use for free.

HockeySkates :

Just another example of bad math . Your City can't afford to pay for the Mistake by the Lake; Yet you want more and more "Well-Fare".

"Well-Fare Explotation" $700,000.00 a year in taxes thats why many are still poor in this city. The government took all their money in taxes.

"For some the glass is always half empty."

I guess you want more and more Government Well-Fare Projects". Multi-Plex for your Well-Fare Bums BIA's.

Everyone of you are better at spending money not your governments.

Great Story!
