THUNDER BAY -- Police are investigating the armed robbery of a south-side convenience store.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say a man entered the Mac's Mart convenience store at 745 Simpson St. just before 4 a.m. on Friday armed with a knife.

The suspect's face was covered at the time of the incident. The man fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect was last seen heading into the east end on foot.

No injuries were reported as a result of the robbery and the investigation continues.

Police have not provided a description of the suspect, but ask that anyone with information contact either the Thunder Bay Police Service at 684-1200, or Crime Stoppers at 623-8477.

A mac's on Simpson Street robbed? You don't say! I never would have thought putting a convenience store right dead smack in the middle of crime city would ever be targeted by criminals. Absolutely amazing. *Rolls eyes*

I have lived in Thunder Bay most of my life thought I was good at math and understanding the statements opf local politicians and legal authority's . Since I am having some problem with numbers , would some one please post how many Maxc stores have been robbed here in the past few years , that part I cannot comprehend however the lies from the top[ down are easily deciphered .

To sum it up, the average is about 2 per week. So, if you take an average of 2, and multiply it by 52 weeks, you get about 104 times per year.

Me n My Opinion says:
Seriously dude? It's nowhere near two a week. For a while a few months back there was a spree that maybe averaged two a week for about a month or so. Since then there has only been maybe 10 in total. Granted, 10 is still too many, but it certainly isn't two a week on average.

You two are funny. So people really do still fall for the lesser of two evils.

Arguing over numbers and not the fact that people are put in harms way working a minimum wage job, with exteme likeliness of having to suffer though a robbery.

Oh, and that Lynn Peterson created crime council. How's that working out here?

Let me guess. Did you vote Lieberal too.

Wow, this is Thunder Bay.

Can you acknowledge that Thunder Bay isn't all that great. It's simply ROUGH out there.

Can't see a problem unless if affects you. It's called narcisism.

The first post was silly, but the need to respond and correct it ... even sillier.

Isn't that the point of most commentors like yourself.

To preach to the readers what their opinion is, skipping all facts along the way.

Thunder Bay is not that great, and dening that fact will not improve it one bit.

Crime will go on and on. Many people don't even want to leave their homes.

But hey, you have a good day in your rose coloured glasses world.

It beats me beyond comprehension and baffles the mind that this continues. Inconceivable acts mystify me. Clear as mud, this perplexing situation totally puzzles me leaving me feeling enigmatic. Just can't find the words!

Still some more steps will need to be taken @ our local stores to prevent robberies like this in the future cause whatever protocols that were recently put into place isnt working...

They should use walk up windows (like a drive thru) this would help ensure the safety of the staff and hopefully help with them being robbed. If they can't get in, then they can't rob it.... Just something to think about!

woofwoof says:
Escroft..do you not think that they would find somewhere else to rob..Simpson store is not the only one that has been robbed. And it is not 2 per week..you really are not paying attention are you? (rolls Eyes)

Escroft says:
No, not really. It's happened so many times in 2012, I simply stopped caring and actually started laughing. It's gone from serious to silly to snickering and now to just downright funny. The owner of the Mac's chain cares nothing for your lives. If they did, they'd let you have a weapon to protect yourself and won't fire you for self-defense.

What's all the hubbub about here? They are still making a profit, so who cares if fifty bucks strolls out the door twice a week? I bet more is lost every day into the pockets of shoplifting punks. You have to respect this person for at least interacting with the clerk.

1788 , sounds like a good idea, however if they were to do this the customer standing at the walk up window would get robbed.

That store has been there since the 80's if im not mistaken...way before the riff raff moved into the area and started destroying the city...

This is absolutly incredible, how hurting all those PEopLE are, instead of working..LETS ROB A STORE for 20-50$, cigarettes,Mouth wash and maybe some lotto tickets..all while gambling on getting caught and spending 10+ yrs for armed robbery, making a usually young kid traumatized and most likely quit immediatly. AGAIN, all this for 20-50$$.. ITS TIME FOR THIS CITY TO PUT AN END TO THIS, Before a worker actually gets Hurt or even killed..Armed robbery really shouldnt be put off.
