THUNDER BAY -- City police are looking for witnesses of a hit and run.

The Thunder Bay Police Service's traffic unit hopes residents in the University Drive and Inglewood Crescent area may have heard a crash just after midnight Thursday.

Police say they hope someone has information about the vehicle that fled the scene.

Police say the driver of a white minivan lost control of the vehicle on University Drive and slammed into a parked car at 158 University Drive.

The owner of the parked car looked out the window and was able to see the vehicle back up and flee the scene.

Police say there was extensive damage to the rear of the parked vehicle. The front of the white minivan may also have extensive damage on its front end.

If you witnessed this event, or have knowledge of who the driver was, please contact the traffic unit or CrimeStoppers.

Could it be more like 358 University? That would be a corner near Inglewood. There are 2 bad bends with blind spots and when there are 2 cars parked on each side and you meet oncoming traffic......well, let's just say I wouldn't be parking my car there!

Pretty sure the guy whose car got hit knows his address.....

Pretty sure you should check your facts before flapping off to Rootbear.

158 University Dr is just off Edward near Bayberry. Rootbear is in fact correct, 358 is the corner near Inglewood, where they reported the accident took place.

Thanks for your input Woof!!

158 University Drive is between the 2 intersections of University/Inglewood just past the keystone cul-da-sac

Once again the police need the publics help, lol... Its pretty obvious, find a smashed up white van!!

pagirl says:
They always ask the public's help to turn someone in when a crime is comitted. If they didn't, you guys would be smashing them for not giving a description of the offending vehicle!! Can't win ever with the complainers...

Yes questioning the police asking for help from the public is surely not negative, and most certainly adds so much to this story. Great comment lance. Obviously it should be easy for the police to find a white van in city of this size, and/or the even bigger region. How dare they try to interrupt you from your intellectual commenting on tbnewswatch.com.

Again...just like the yellow jeep that hit the pole. The police need to get off their lazy behinds and do some police work instead of relying on the public to do it for them. Go to the residents of white mini vans. You could of done the same thing with the yellow jeep and caught them within a day or two. No, the TBPS pretended it didn't happen. Same will happen here.

pagirl says:
So you'd rather they didn't ask for the help of the public to see if the person can get caught quickly? This is one of the most ridiculous police-hating posts I've seen in a long time... You do realize how many thousands of white vans there would be in the area? Hitting a parked car also isn't the crime of the century.
1/19/2013 9:05:42 AM
yup says:
How could they possibly go to and even know where all the white mini van's are? You know how much time and money spent that would cost the police service to check every single home? hey, maybe while they are doing that, they can look into the police services crystal ball and see when the next assault will happen, or where the next robbery will take place

razor...u watch too much CSI..how do u just go find all the owners of all the white vans registered not just in Thunder Bay, but everywhere??
Not to mention that maybe it had been painted since its' registration!!

You folks have no clue. The cops could of found that can the same night with a little call to the MTO for some info. You all lack common sense and it's hilarious how ignorant you are.
1/19/2013 1:34:26 PM
pagirl says:
Common sense says the MTO can maybe produce a list of ALL the white vans in the city. Yeah, that won't take too long to sort through and search for. Duhhhhhh.... the police have nothing better to do for a dented vehicle.

Tom Sanderson says:
You people should get a life. You are haggling over an assumption and the only one that said anything related to finding the offender is razor-burn. The police can check vehicle registration records through the MTO database. It's simple as 'vans' + 'white' + 'Thunder Bay'.

You all spend way to much time trying convince others that your opinion is the only one that is the right one.
That's my opinion :)

Riiiiight, Razor, go and check every residence that has a white mini van associated with it. Not only in Thunder Bay, but in the surrounding townships. Waste of time and officers, not to mention reading what everyone on here would have to say about the police wasting their time like that. BTW a "little call" to the MTO? They don't work the midnight shift, maybe in New York, LA or Toronto they do, but not in NWO.
You obviously have no clue about what goes on in this City if you think the police can waste that amount of time. As someone previous has said, it's not like a hit and run is the crime of the century...

dad3192 says:
keep watching tv razor..if you have the solution...call crime stoppers
I'd love to see you track down the owner of a white mini van..and link it to the accident
Tell me something..do you think it would be more successful to have 120,000 pairs of eyes looking for the van..of the 200 or so cops out there?
Sit in your bubble behind your computer amd continue to post garbage....
you just have no clue

"hello mto..this is razor_burn calling...can you give me a list of all the white vans registered in north america??...hello...hello? MTO r u still there??"

What is the problem with you people? You spend more time criticizing someone's comments than you spend commenting on the news story. Is this your only source of entertainment?
