A former CEP union official found guilty in a major theft case will learn his fate in April.

Wayne Asselin, 66, of Nipigon, was charged in 2011 with fraud over $5,000, theft and criminal breach of trust after more than $175,000 went missing from the union.

The union represented workers at the former Red Rock Mill. Asselin was the Financial Secretary of CEP Local 255 at the time.

Sentencing submissions were made today at the Superior Court of Justice.

Lawyers for the Crown and the defense agree that a jail sentence is inevitable, but the length of time Asselin will have to spend behind bars has yet to be determined.

The sentence will be delivered on April 24.
