Police have made a second arrest in connection to a 2009 homicide investigation.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say the investigation began after the death of Edgar Marion.

Police received a report of a car fire near the Shuniah Mines in July 2009. The car and body were found at the scene, and police say they were able to link it to an earlier reported fire at an Algoma Street address.

Police charged Leif Hobson with first-degree murder, arson and indignity to a dead body.

On March 1, 2013, city police officers arrested 23-year-old Samantha Drake as an accessory to murder after the fact. Staff Sgt. Derek West, who is the manager for the case, said that new information recently came to light that led to the charges.

“The specifics about how and what that information is I can’t disclose at this point in time until disclosure is made to the defense,” West said, adding that would be in the coming months.

West said Drake and Hobson were known to each other. Police had always suspected more than one person was involved with the alleged crime due to how property from the Algoma address was discarded and the moving of the body.

She has also been charged with two counts of arson and indignity to a dead body.

Drake has been held in custody as the result of those charges, and is expected to make a court appearance Monday. She will appear in court again Tuesday. Hobson’s next court date is April 22.
