Greenstone's two area sawmills need to be restarted.

That was the main focus of a recent meeting between the mayor and the Minister of Natural Resources at the Ontario Good Roads Conference.

One sawmill is in Longlac, the other in Nakina. Both have been closed since 2008 when Buchanan Forest Products ceased operations due to the poor lumber market.

The two facilities have since sat idle with little activity.

Greenstone Mayor Ron Beaulieu calls this a shame, and says both facilities have wood allocations ready to supply materials to produce lumber.

He was hoping to hear what the ministry could do to help foster negotiations.

Beaulieu feels the conversation went well and was told by Minister Orazietti that he would see what could be done to move things along.
