An estimated 120 new jobs are heading to Atikokan next year.

The work comes to the Northwestern Ontario community as two mills are expected to be up and running. One is located in Sapawe, at the site of the former Atikokan Forest Products, while the other is located in Atikokan and is now being retrofitted by Rentech.

Atikokan Mayor Dennis Brown says its great news for the town after a string of bad news forestry headlines that began hitting the town in 2008.

“We had lost two mills, and we had lost approximately 300 jobs,” Brown said during an interview with CKPR Radio.

“When the two mills went out of operation it certainly affected this community.”
