The city engineering division has ordered the contractor in charge of the Golf Links Road four-laning project to fix a bumpy situation.

The section between Central Avenue and the Harbour Expressway recently received a top coat of asphalt. However, the manhole covers along that route are set lower than the pavement, making them feel like a pothole for motorists.

City project engineer Rick Harms said the manholes are normally in the centre of the lane, so tires don't pass over them but these ones are right in the wheel paths.

Harms said the contractor began repairing and raising the five offending manhole covers Thursday afternoon.

The next stage of the four-laning project, between Central Avenue and Oliver Road, should be reopened to traffic on Nov. 19.
