Employees at the Resolute Sawmill on the Fort William First Nation are starting their return to work.

The return to work, which began Thursday morning, followed Wednesday evening meetings between management, staff and the union.

The operation was put on a so-called safety break by the company Tuesday after the third workplace accident of the year was recorded.

Nearly all of the employees were suspended without pay Tuesday afternoon, following a meeting about the sawmill's recent string of workplace injuries. According to Unifor National Representative Marvin Pupeza, the 200 employees were scheduled to get back to work on Thursday.

Each worker will meet with the employer and the safety committee to review safety protocols at the sawmill.

The meetings will take place over the next four days, concluding on Sunday.

Production at Resolute Sawmill is set to resume Sunday night.
