Fire crews are in the process of bringing a massive house fire under control.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to the early evening blaze in a residence on Dawson Road between Dog Lake Road and Shirley Road.

There were no injuries reported as flames were visible above the tree line and smoke billowed into the sky. Fire officials said the house appears to be a write-off with flames going through the roof and structure of the residence.

Five pumpers worked to bring the blaze, which was mostly under control as of 10 p.m. with crews just monitoring spot fires. The pumpers could be seen at various points along the road filling up from fire hydrants during the busiest portions of the battle.

Thunder Bay Police were brought in to help control traffic along the busy roadway..

A fire investigator is on scene, and it is believed the fire originated in the basement.
