A Dawson Road home has been completely destroyed by a fire.

No injuries were reported as a result of the Sunday evening blaze at the home located between Dog Lake Road and Shirley Road. Firefighters remained on the scene until Monday morning.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue fire prevention officer Paul Bureau told reporters that the home is a complete loss.

“When Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded on scene, flames were coming out of the A-frame windows,” Bureau said. “The basement was also fully involved.”

The house fire was in a difficult area for firefighters as there were no fire hydrants in the immediate area.

Two pumpers were used to bring water from the nearest hydrants, located near Paquette Road, to the scene.

All that remains of the home now are segments of walls and the foundation of the chimney.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, but Bureau said it appears to have originated in the basement.

The blaze is not being ruled suspicious.
