City police have issued a special road advisory in response to the recent cold temperatures.

In a news release issued by the Thunder Bay Police Service Thursday, the force reminds drivers that road salt is not effective at temperatures below -15C. That means city drivers will likely have to deal with slick roadways until at least midday Saturday.l

The recent cold snap has kept city police busy. The force reported 45 crashes Monday, 37 on Tuesday, 25 on Wednesday with another 12 reported before the end of Thursday morning.

Police are also reminding drivers that they must report any collisions to police if the combined damage exceeds $1,000 or there was an injury as a result of the crash.

Police say that drivers being sent to the self reporting center will need to bring the vehicle involved, all related documents and some patience as line-ups are expected until the weather breaks or everyone starts to slow down.
