The Ministry of Labour is investigating the injury of a worker at an abandoned Thunder Bay cardboard plant this afternoon.

The incident occurred at about 2 p.m. at the former Smurfit Stone building on Lakeshore Drive, which is currently being demolished.

Reports from the scene indicate the worker, believed to be about 45 years old, was throwing debris down through a hole.  But his glove apparently got caught on a piece of material, causing him to fall 30 feet to the ground below.

Superior North EMS deputy chief Wayne Gates said the man suffered a head injury but was conscious when taken from the scene. There was no word on his current condition.

A Ministry of Labour inspector has been called in to investigate.

No other details have been made public.
