An 18-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Shannon Ashliegh Marie Hogan. Hogan, 30, was killed following an incident in a laneway behind Lake Street in the early morning of July 16.

An 18-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Shannon Ashliegh Marie Hogan.

Hogan, 30, was killed following an incident in a laneway behind Lake Street in the early morning of July 16.

Thunder Bay Police said Hogan was the victim of a violent assault.

Through an extensive investigation, Thunder Bay police arrested the male, who has been in custody on unrelated charges.

He was making an appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice Thursday when was arrested on the murder charge.

Deputy chief Andy Hay said forensic evidence, including DNA, played a significant role in the investigation. 

The suspect cannot be identified since he was a youth at the time of the incident.

His next court date is Dec. 27.
