Fire hall construction delayed due to weather

Plans to build a new fire hall in the city have hit a small glitch.

The project on the corner of Frederica Street and Neebing Avenue will be delayed for three months due to weather issues.

The city had to decide if they wanted to go ahead with building the new Westfort fire hall during the winter months, or hold off until spring.  Construction began in September, but the foundation hasn't yet been laid.

That requires temperature sensitive construction work, which is hard to do at this time of the year.

Gerry Broere, the city’s manager of construction services, says construction is going well with the other two fire hall projects.

The new Neebing station on 20th Sideroad is on schedule and likely to be opened in July.

And the expansion on James Street is ahead of schedule and likely to be completed in February.

Broere adds the delay in Westfort should not cause the city to run over their projected budget.
